Fitbit and Garmin both have been in the competition for quite some time. However, their products often have different priorities and goals, so you can say that they are there to target different user groups. Fitbit’s products are usually more socially oriented with awesome user-friendly apps. On the other hand, Garmin’s products are usually more data intensive, designed for those who are very serious in pursuing their athletic performance. This time, though, the two companies have overlapped each other with Fitbit Ionic and Garmin Vivoactive 3. The two smartwatches are quite comparable to each other. So, below, we will see the comparisons between Fitbit Ionic vs Garmin Vivoactive 3 to determine the best product for the money!
Design and Style
In terms of looks, Fitbit Ionic and Garmin Vivoactive 3 can’t be any more different. Fitbit Ionic comes with a more modern approach, featuring a slim rectangular display, whereas Garmin Vivoactive 3 is more traditional with a circular display and a thick bezel. Both are water-resistant.
Fitbit Ionic is slim, sleek, and fairly lightweight. There are three physical buttons on the sides, in addition to the touchscreen, to help you navigate. The hi-res color display measures 29 mm x 21 mm with a resolution of 348 x 250. It is easy to use and very convenient to look at. The bands are swappable, with a variety of colors and materials available.
On the other hand, Garmin Vivoactive 3 is somewhat a little bigger and thicker. However, it is also very lightweight. The circular display measures 30.4 mm from end to end. The display is transflective and visible under direct sunlight. It is very easy to read, thanks to the 240 x 240 resolution. For control, you can use the single physical button on the right side and swipe commands on the touchscreen.
In terms of features, Fitbit Ionic vs Garmin Vivoactive 3 have different pros and cons. As expected, Fitbit Ionic comes with more convenience features, whereas Garmin Vivoactive 3 comes with more fitness features. Both have some similar features including activity tracking, automatic sports tracking, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, VO2 max estimation, smart notifications, and mobile payment.
The huge selling point of Fitbit Ionic is the internal music storage. It has a built-in Pandora app for listening to music while you are running or working out. With Fitbit Ionic, you don’t need to bring your phone around in order to play some music. It also has a better app store with more choices and selections.
Garmin Vivoactive 3 does not have the built-in music storage, and the app store isn’t as great, but it comes with more fitness features. There are three exclusive features: running cadence, training plans, and LiveTracking. The running cadence will show you the number of steps taken in a minute – an important stat if you want to optimize your running performance to near-perfection. The training plans come with preloaded, downloadable, and customizable options, whereas the LiveTracking will allow others to see where you are when activated.
