LG has joined the competition in the smartwatch market with LG Urbane and LG Watch R. The features of these two models are quite similar. As the effect, design and build quality become the main differentiators between them. See the detailed comparisons between LG Urbane vs LG Watch R below to determine which one is the best smartwatch for you!
Design and Construction
Both LG Urbane vs LG Watch R smartwatches look luxurious. They are both classy and elegant. However, there are some important distinctions. First of all, the display of LG Urbane is protected with a Gorilla Glass 3 screen which is highly tough and durable. It resists scratches and impacts very well, and it does look shinier. On the other hand, LG Watch R only has a plastic screen which is prone to scratches. See also: LG Urbane vs Urbane 2.
In terms of design, LG Urbane has a classier air around it. This smartwatch is also more unisex. The screwless design makes it sleeker, too. On the other hand, LG Watch R comes with a sportier design and is mostly suitable for men. The casing is somewhat beefier, creating a tough look.
The hardware features of LG Urbane and LG Watch R are mostly identical. They each come with a P-OLED display that has a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. The pixel density is 245 ppi, which is good. They both offer amazing vibrant colors and very deep blacks. This is possible because the P-OLED technology essentially turns off pixels to display blacks – allowing very deep blacks while preserving battery life.
Each of the two models is also packed with the 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset and 512 MB RAM. They run very smoothly without any noticeable lag. Each has an internal storage capacity of 4 GB.
LG Urbane is released with a newer version of Android Wear, but the update is available for LG Watch R. The newer version of Android Wear will give more options, wrist gestures, emoji drawings, and the access to an app launcher.
However, there is one thing that is only available on LG Urbane, which is the Wi-Fi support. LG Urbane can connect to a local wireless network to access the Internet. On the other hand, LG Watch R does not have this connectivity option, and this may be a big limitation for some people.
By the way, LG Urbane already support Bluetooth 4.1. LG Watch R still uses a slightly older technology, Bluetooth 4.0. This may be a benefit depending on your smartphone’s capability.
Finally, these two models have similar battery life. Each of them is packed with a 410 mAh Li-ion battery, which can last for more than a day per charge. But don’t forget that the actual battery life will be shorter if you turn on the Wi-Fi and GPS continuously.
